The Military Africa portal reports that the twin-turboprop aircraft, assembled at Airbus’ facilities in Seville, is valued at about 50 million euros. Maputo will use the unit to support its army in the fight against armed Islamist groups in the northeastern province of Cabo Delgado. The newspaper Africa Intelligence also reports on this acquisition and the upcoming reception of the device.

With the new aircraft, the Mozambican forces will strengthen their transport fleet, which includes two new refurbished units acquired two years ago from the South African company Paramount. One is a Czech-made Let-410 Turbolet, and the other a CN235M, also assembled by Airbus in Spain.

African countries that are already customers of the C295 include Angola, Algeria, Côte d’Ivoire, Gabon, Ghana, Equatorial Guinea and Senegal.
